The premise: after the near destruction of the World Tree, an ancient relic surfaces. Tyrande is murdered in Ashenvale by a mysterious new enemy, and Furion crosses the Maelstrom to the snowy mountains of Khaz Modan to find her killer and a secret she kept from him for seven thousand years.

Readers pressed for clearer answers on the new race (built partly on the human tech tree), new units such as Warg Riders and griffins, and a rumoured expansion. The team chose to keep most plot details back.
